Auction Record for Xenia Hausner

On June 20th, the Austrian auction house Im Kinsky achieved a new record price for a painting by Xenia Hausner and nearly doubled the high estimate.

"The most expensive painting ever auctioned by the Austrian artist changed ownership at the Kinsky auction house for €118,500 (90,000 €). The face of the young woman with the lowered gaze is partially obscured by large banana leaves; the indigo-blue background provides an emotional space and captivates the viewer's eye. The impressive result of this work created in 2014 confirms the enduring interest of the art audience in Hausner's pieces."

"Indigo", 2014, 100 x 110 cm (39 3/8" x 43 3/8") was estimated at EUR 25 - 50,000 and sold for EUR 118,500 including premium, which is approximately $128,000

Christian Hohmann published several serial originals with Hausner in the early 2000s. A serial original is a limited edition fine print that is not just embellished but completely overpainted differently by the artist each time, resulting in a series of originals with the same underlying imagery.

Three of these works are currently for sale. Please contact the gallery for more information.
