With Lost & Found, sculptor JD Hansen returns to the core of her signature aesthetic—graceful figurative forms delicately balanced between vulnerability and strength—while introducing a compelling new layer of conceptual and formal exploration. Known for her introspective approach to the human condition and the quiet tension that inhabits her bronzes, Hansen continues to evolve, this time through the integration of language. In recent years, Hansen has deepened her engagement with the written word, not only as a source of inspiration but as a visual and structural element in her work. Copper wire bent by hand into cryptic phrases has appeared in and around her sculptures, creating an atmosphere of internal dialogue and subconscious narrative. These elements are also featured in her recent forays into painting, where layered words evoke emotional resonance rather than literal meaning—visual poetry that conjures impressions rather than images.
Lost & Found pushes this exploration further. Here, fragments of language are transformed into abstract, sweeping forms that define the base of the sculpture itself. Words no longer hover around the figure—they become a foundation, both literally and metaphorically. From this ground of language rises a female form, serene yet alert, in quiet communion with a bird delicately perched before her. It’s an unlikely, almost magical encounter that speaks to a deeper symbiosis—between nature and self, silence and speech, searching and discovery.
As with much of Hansen’s work, the sculpture speaks to personal growth and self-realization. The title Lost & Found plays with duality and transformation: what was once fragmented and elusive becomes whole and grounded. The figure is not just encountering the bird—she is encountering a moment of clarity, of becoming. It is an articulation of presence and possibility.
Currently in the casting process, Lost & Found will be released in an edition of nine. The first bronze is expected to be completed by July 1st. Pre-orders placed before that date come with a significant price consideration and the rare opportunity to participate in the patina selection process—an intimate collaboration between artist and collector. The height of the sculpture will be approximately 18".
