Clemens Kindling Exhibition extended

The Clemens Kindling (1916-1992) has been one of our most successful exhibitions, with a record number of visitors. Due to this wonderful feedback, we have extended the exhibition until June 1st. We have placed several of these historic works into private collections across the US, and this is your only chance to see them in person. The catalog is available at the gallery for $20.

The artist is known for a style inspired by German Expressionism, which is composed of an organic and lively view of people and objects absent of rigid straight lines and filled with uneven compositions. The exhibition will include some of the late artist’s extraordinary paintings and works on paper from the collections of his wife Maria and the Hohmann family – both rarely, if ever, seen by the public.

As an artist, Kindling occupies a special place in the Hohmann family's heart. Some of Christian’s earliest memories are from when he visited Kindling’s studio in Germany. He would watch as “The Master” in his white coat reigned with a brush in hand, articulating inspired scenes of the world around him while the smell of paint permeated all. Years later, while Christian was a teen, he would accompany the artist to Italy, where his final series was in the conception stage, to watch him collect sketches and drafts for the paintings in his mind that, unfortunately, would never come to fruition. Kindling passed away when Christian was 18, and it was the young man’s earnest desire to someday pay homage to the man who exemplified what it meant to be an artist at all costs. The special relationship also created a passion in Christian to become a gallerist dedicated to showing artists whose work was too important to be forgotten.
