It's no secret that I am not a fan of social media, but my artists have pressured me from the beginning to post about their work on social media. I kept telling them that I'd rather sell one of their works to one of our collectors than getting a hundred "likes" or "thumbs up" by teenagers that scroll through Facebook while waiting for the school bus. Ok, I know that's not a fair assessment, but you get my point. However, I have found an affinity for Instagram, because it's all about images and you don't have to read about your (so-called) friends' latest Starbucks experience.
What I only recently figured out (with the help of my 7 and 8-year-old daughters) is that you can post stories that disappear after a while. So, I have started to post the occasional behind-the-scenes videos, for example, the arrival of a new Voss-Andreae or a visit to the construction site of our new showroom, etc. Things that we wouldn't put into a newsletter and a glimpse behind the glamorous scenes that you don't get to see often enough! Don't join Instagram on our behalf, but if you are already on it, I'd love it if you would follow us: www.instagram.com/hohmann.art We have just reached 3,000 followers. Gagosian has 1.4 million. Come on, I know we can do this!
