Horns of a Dilemma

Contemporary artist Robert Dunahay’s professional oeuvre has run the gamut from figurative painting to installation to minimalist abstraction, spanning four decades of a prolific career that began in New York City, matured in San Francisco, and now flourishes in sunny Palm Springs, California.

“Horns of a Dilemma” is part of a new group of artworks utilizing colored crystalline sand mixed with acrylic on canvas to evoke the glorious effects of glitter or diamond dust, evolving the large-scale abstract pieces into a sexy, modern art lexicon. The highly reflective holographic flecks transition into rainbow gradations as one observes the painting from various positions. The work is electric, daring, and bold; it’s no surprise his work was selected for inclusion in Vogue magazine’s 125th anniversary issue in 2017.

Dunahay’s work has an international following and resides in permanent museum, private, and corporate collections worldwide including those housed at:

  • Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art (Malibu, CA)
  • Museum of Art and History (Lancaster, CA)
  • Pepperdine University (Malibu, CA)
  • Disney Hotels (Orlando, FLA)
  • Packard Foundation (Los Altos, CA)
  • W Hotel (San Diego, CA)
  • Financial Times (San Francisco, CA)
