Bernard Cathelin's little nap

2020_106

Bernard Cathelin (1919 - 2004) was a French painter known for his uniquely stylized abstractions of flowers, landscapes, and figures. Thick palette knife strokes of paint capture the light and atmosphere of the Provence, where he spent much time. Cathelin's work has been exhibited in countless museums and galleries around the world. There are very few original works currently on the market and none of this quality and condition. Painted in 1988, "Sieste Au Petit Saint Vincent" depicts a nude woman lounging under an open window that looks out onto the water. Petit Saint Vincent is an Island in the Caribbean and Cathelin beautifully captured the lazy, warm island summer afternoon in this stunning 59" x 59" painting.
